Dear college/University Folks,
I wanted to announce that the Grinnell Singers have commissioned a choral work from Steven Stucky, the 2005 Pulitzer Prize winner in music. We have formed a consortium with the Kansas City Chorale, the Phoenix Bach Choir, and Seattle Pro Musica, all of whom are sharing this commission with us under the auspices of Meet The Composer (MTC). We applied for the MTC grant last November, and heard that we had received it last March. It was especially exciting to hear, a few days afterward, that Stucky had won the Pulitzer. Steven Stucky is composer-in-residence at the LA Philharmonic. He has written a fair number of choral works, most notably several recent commissions from Chanticleer. The Grinnell Singers will premiere these three commissioned unaccompanied works on February 18, and we will perform the European premiere when we tour Romania, Bulgaria, and Istanbul next March. If you are interested in these pieces, I will happily share them with you and put you in contact with the composer.
best wishes to everyone at the start of your season,
John Rommereim
