Iowa Choral Directors Association, Inc., ICDA, serves choral musicians in the state of Iowa by providing leadership, guidance and support, continuing education opportunities, promoting excellence in the choral art through high quality offerings and events, supporting growth beyond college graduation, and enriching and renewing the musical souls of its membership.

ICDA’s 800+ members are choral conductors at every level of learning from pre-school to adult and they make music with a wide variety of choruses. ICDA is an affiliate of the American Choral Directors Association.

Our Mission and Purpose Iowa Choral Directors Association, Inc. exists to serve choral musicians in the state of Iowa by providing leadership, guidance and support, offering continuing education opportunities, promoting excellence in the choral art through high quality offerings and events, supporting education and growth beyond college graduation, and enriching and renewing the musical souls of its membership.

ICDA's 900+ members are choral conductors at every level of learning from pre-school to adult and they make music with a wide variety of choruses. ICDA is regarded nationally as a leader among state ACDA organizations in providing opportunities for growth and development for all those dedicated to choral music. ICDA is an affiliate of the American Choral Directors Association, one of the largest professional organizations for choral directors in the world with a membership of approximately 17,000 directors representing one million singers.

Membership

Residents of Iowa who join ACDA, also become members of the Iowa affiliate chapter, ICDA. For new members or renewals please click HERE. If you are renewing please renew under your previous member number rather than establishing a new account. ALL membership payments must be paid to the National Office either online or by mail.

All members receive copies of Choral Journal (the monthly national magazine) and Sounding Board (Iowa's newsletter, published in the months of September, November, February, and May).

Membership is a wonderful opportunity for networking with hundreds of colleagues who are active in the choral art. Our publications and conventions provide members with diverse and practical forums through which we develop and sharpen our professional skills. Why not join today?

If you are joining ICDA for the first time, or renewing after your membership has lapsed, please keep in mind there will be a delay between your joining/renewal date and your access to the ICDA website. Membership information is transmitted from the national office on a weekly basis. If you require more immediate access,  please email your contact information, including both home and work addresses and phone numbers, and a copy of the receipt you received from the national office to webmaster@iowachoral.org so that you are listed in the member directory and receive all of the benefits of membership, including access to the private areas of this website. If you are a member of the Iowa Choral Director Association and are logging into this new website for the first time:

  • Click Log In. Old login information does not work. You must click Sign Up to gain access to the new site. The Webmaster will verify your membership and admit you to the members-only pages of the website.

  • If you have requested membership after your membership has lapsed or you renewed recently, please email webmaster@iowachoral.org and attach the receipt and/or a screenshot of your membership card to verify renewal. This would also apply if you are a scholarship recipient receiving a complimentary membership.

  • This website is only for choral directors who are members of the American Choral Director Association. Parents of students and students are not allowed access. If you applied by accident, please email webmaster@iowachoral.org and simply state "Disregard my membership request".

  • Upon approval, you will receive and email to verify your ICDA District instead of your school district. Please contact webmaster@iowachoral.org and state the ICDA District in which your school is located: NW, NC, NE, C, EC, SC, SW, and SE.

The Iowa Choral Directors Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing education and opportunities in choral music for its members and the singers they serve. It is an enduring goal, therefore, to be a leader among state ACDA organizations in providing opportunities for growth and development for all those dedicated to choral music.

Established in 1987, ICDA’s effort to assist its members in their pursuit of graduate work was renamed in 1996 in memory of ICDA member and Drake faculty member, James Cox. Each year the deadline for applications is June 1. Interested persons should submit a letter stating their educational plans and why they believe they are deserving of this assistance to the President of ICDA.

Deadline is June 1st of each year.

Graduate Scholarship Program Guidelines

  • Applicant must be an Active or Life member of ACDA/ICDA.

  • Study must be toward a graduate degree.

  • Applicant must be a full-time graduate student or complete a minimum four week summer term.

  • Applicant must include tuition costs, validated by the institution.

  • Monies are mailed directly to the Registrar’s Office of said institution.

  • Scholarships range up to $750, not to exceed the cost of tuition.

Research Grant Program

  • Applicant must be an Active or Life member of ACDA/ICDA

  • Applicant must pursue a project involving an in-depth study of a particular aspect of the choral art.

  • A monograph of the candidate’s study is required within one calendar year of receiving the grant.

  • Applicant must provide a breakdown of projected costs.

  • Research grant will not exceed $500.

  • Application must include a personal statement of the candidate’s worthiness for this award.
